Last week, in response to my post about “The Invisible Working Mother” blogger CV Harquail of Authentic Organizations challenged me to come up with some great sites that build community for working moms. I’m officially putting the word out to all of you, in the hope that we can create a resource list for those working moms who are feeling isolated or in need of support, or who just want to talk about the issues.
Submit your favorite working mothers sites in the comments section here, on Facebook or Twitter. I’m especially interested in hearing about forums or listservs — especially those that are local — that could be a resource for working women to meet each other, either virtually or in person.
In the next couple of weeks I’ll post the whole list. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorites to get the ball rolling:
- Moms to Work; the Moms Returning to Work section is especially good for new working mothers.
- Working Moms Against Guilt
- Women and Work
- Working Mother Magazine; especially their blogs section for commentary and advice from actual working moms.
- Work it, Mom!; particularly their blogging section that highlights voices of real working moms.
- MomsRising; not strictly for working mothers — they cover a number of woman’s issues — but certainly one of the best working mother advocacy groups around covering equal pay, breastfeeding and myriad other injustices small and large.
Thanks so much for your thoughts and ideas — hope to hear from everyone soon!

Oh Mama Bee!
Thank you for this initiative! I know that the working moms who want work advice will appreciate the effort. I think it’s especially important to find communities where a feminist, pro-diversity/inclusion orientation is the norm, since there’s no point in addressing issues of working women without taking a liberatory stance. cvh
What an honor to be named on such a list! Feels good to know we’re helping do our part to make working moms feel better about what we do.
I’m writing on the issue here:
